Reilly & Gelder OMS - Oral Surgery Assistant

Department: ALB CapRegOS Dental Assistants
Location: Albany, NY

We are excited to announce an exciting opportunity to be part of a well-established, busy and culturally-minded Oral Surgery practice in the Albany area! This position directly supports our Oral Surgeons in providing exceptional patient care before, during and after oral surgery procedures.

Position Details:

Location - Reilly & Gelder OMS

Address - Rotation between Albany/Clifton Park/East Greenbush office locations

Full time - Monday through Friday

Salary - $18 to $24/hr

Ideal candidates would have at least 1 year of relevant experience

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Include (but is not limited to):

  • Seating and checking in Interacts effectively with patient: meets and greets patient, escorts patient to operatory, seats and prepares patient for appointment (provides bib, water, etc.) and prepares instrumentation needed by the dentist Reviews and confirms medical history and current medications with patient, communicates changes and other relevant health information to doctor; ensures relevant records and X-rays are called up on the computer or otherwise present for review and use by the doctor; performs triage for the doctor based on patient input; assists doctor with charting at doctor direction. Prepares for next day scheduled patient cases
  • Assists dentist in practicing two- or four-handed dentistry (based on dentist preference), including delivering and retrieving instruments from the dentist, providing suction and retraction as instructed; also takes needed x-rays, keeps doctor informed as to appointment timing, and provides other assistance as required by the doctor during the appointment.
  • Prepares, maintains, and breaks down operatory according to protocol before, during, and after patient visit including, but not limited to: proper stocking of room with required instruments and supplies, cleaning and maintaining operatory equipment, proper sterilization of instruments, and cleaning room thoroughly between patients; contributes to the overall housekeeping and maintenance of the office.
  • At conclusion of visit, instructs patient regarding aftercare, facilitates referrals as needed, and escorts patient to front desk for future appointments and payment; makes appropriate follow-up calls to patient at the direction of the doctor.
